Welcome All

Got the idea for this community after a discussion in Julian Hate

I agreed with an anonymous poster who thought that Ryan Murphy shot himself in the foot by delaying the show to premiere during the regular season. It looks like FX is retaliating by giving the show significantly less publicity for the upcoming season. It is one thing when The Sopranos, which is more a long running HBO film, than a TV show "skips seasons," but Nip/Tuck is not The Sorpranos; it is a show which has gotten by mainly because it was on an an off network during the off season. The way Murphy kept putting off season three was an extremely stupid mistake, especially since during the real season, newer, more innovative shows came out. I think, with competition from shows on the regular networks, Nip/Tuck is a sitting duck. However, in some ways I feel bad for the actors, but I think Bruno Campos, Joely Richardson and Dylan Walsh will be able to move on. As for Julian McMahon, you can all guess how I feel.

Yeah, the good thing about N/T was that it came on during the summer months when re-runs and lousy reality shows are usually the norm.
Don't forget, it was also on FX, a network where ratings expectations were significantly lower!

Hi. I’m the anonymous poster who wrote about Ryan Murphy. I was a little skeptical about posting on this site because you guys can be brutal! I’m a little more at ease now. I know this site is primarily about J.M., so if my post is “off the subject,” I apologize.

I really liked Nip/Tuck when I first saw it. The first episode I saw was the one where they double crossed the drug lord and changed his identity to look like someone on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. I thought I was on to something good. The show had flash, no morals and it was just so out there.

Then suddenly it became this Brady like atmosphere. Plot lines had to be wrapped up nice and tidy in an hour. Christian went from this whore dog to this sensitive single father who was only concerned for the well being of “my son.” Um, men like that don’t want kids. They don’t even want girlfriends unless it’s on a first name only basis.

I don’t know if Murphy gave into censors or his own inner-woman or what, but he totally tanked this show.

This whole Carver thing is just ridiculous.

If you go on the Nip/Tuck fans sight it’s all “Oh, Julian is sooooo hot.” GOD FORBID someone write anything even remotely unflattering about the high exalted ruler, “Mr. Murphy.” The claws come out.

He’s ruined the show. He had something that was on fire, and he sat back to bask in it. Now the fire’s out and all he’s got left is smoke. Sure, I’ll tune in, but will I drop everything to see what happens? No. I own Season I. I wouldn’t waste my money on Season 2 aka “Christian Becomes a Sensitive Metrosexual.”

You guys make me laugh with your postings. As a Julian fan, I read some of your postings and am aghast. Literally, hand over my mouth “Oh my God, I can’t believe they typed that!” Then I laugh and share it with my friends.

Many thanks.

This journal is for all snark about Nip/Tuck, not just Julian McMahon, everything is fair game, from rants about the direction of the show, to the very fact that it is on the air.

Fans of Julian should feel welcome to post here, and voice their complaints about the show.

However it is best if frequent posters get LJ accounts. Accounts are free, and easy to start. Membership in Julian_Hate is not required for membership in this comm!

Oh I know, I absolutely hate it when they use the godawful plot device of sudden parenthood to show the "sensitive side," of tough as nails characters. The whole storyline reeked of something ripped from a cheap romance novel.

I didn't buy Christian's hysteria over losing his child and found it almost laughable.

I don’t know if Murphy gave into censors or his own inner-woman or what, but he totally tanked this show.

Totally agree there, it is completely unrealistic for a show like Nip/Tuck. I don't think he was giving into the censors, there was still plenty of racy material last season, remember the whole Ava debacle? Never in my life did I think I would watch a show, roll my eyes, and think "incest, ho hum."

Ryan Murphy seems carried away with it, and it will probably do the show in.

If you go on the Nip/Tuck fans sight it’s all “Oh, Julian is sooooo hot.” GOD FORBID someone write anything even remotely unflattering about the high exalted ruler, “Mr. Murphy.” The claws come out.

Yes I've been lurking on many of the Nip/Tuck communities and the wankiness tends to vary from comm to com, but I do agree with your view.

Personally I'm rubbing my hands in eager anticipation to see what happens if Julian leaves the show, or if the character is irreparably damaged. The Ryan Murphy hatred you are anticipating will show up. The fans didn't seem too happy with the prospect of the carver carving up Christian and the prospect Julian leaving the show.

He’s ruined the show. He had something that was on fire, and he sat back to bask in it. Now the fire’s out and all he’s got left is smoke. Sensitive metrosexual, good one! I worry what they will do to him season three. Both Julian McMahon and Ryan Murphy seem to just be concerned with shock value, so at this point nothing will surprise me.

Hee
I took your advice and got a LJ account. I am the anonymous poster. Nice name, but it's all I could come up with on such short notice.

Thought I'd throw in my two cents regarding Season Three "The Season that Tanked" of Nip/Tuck. Talk about shock value and swearing just for the sake of swearing.

As I said before, I thought season one of Nip/Tuck was incredible. I'm not a t.v. watcher, and this show just caught me. I'm a busy person, and this who just engaged me from "Tell." Now, I cringe when I watch it.

I know you are not JM fans. I thinks he's pretty easy on the eyes, and in my opinion, I think he's the only one on that show (aside from the Carver) who can act. (Be easy on me, you know I'm kind of afraid of you guys).

I've noticed this season, Ryan Murphy likes to see how many times he can insert the word "Shit" in the script. "Shit" has replaced last season's favorite word, "Asshole." The story line of 17 year old Matt running free. Um, he's 17. He has no job. So take away his car, his spending money and stop having drinks with him, Sean. That might make him easier to manage, 'k? Oh, did I fail to mention that, while we have a multi million dollar business, I just so happen to have the ability to sign on a partner without anyone's consent and it's written in stone? WHAT? It just gets worse and worse.

I agree with JM when he says that he wants Christian to get back to making a lot of money and having a lot of sex. It's a generic way of saying "Hey, don't kill me off, but dude, you are so off the beaten path! You're tanking my show!!!!" I think the character of Christian is practically bipolar. First he's a playboy, then he wants to be a father, then he wants to adopt a child that is not his, then he wants to father a child with a lesbian he loathes, then he would love the child regardless of a birth defect, then he wants to be in threesomes, um, WHAT? There is no consistency whatsoever in this show.

I can't blame JM, I think he's hanging on for dear life.

I really liked the episode when social services was at Sean's house to do a home visit and he decides to pour himself a stiff drink. That's brilliant. Why don't they just tattoo an "I am an idiot" on Sean's long suffering brow?

Ok, I took you for your word. I posted. I wasn't afraid.

Glad you did, makes things much less confusing around here and it is nice to have someone else posting. Now that you have your own account, if you have any rants about Nip/Tuck feel free to post away.

That is one sure way of telling that your show has jumped the shark.

I know you are not JM fans. I thinks he's pretty easy on the eyes, and in my opinion, I think he's the only one on that show (aside from the Carver) who can act. (Be easy on me, you know I'm kind of afraid of you guys).

Well, you know my stance on JM. I think it the ambiguous nature of the charcter which has garnered him the following rather than his acting. Also things were helped by the fact that Julian played a similar character on Charmed right beforehand.

I've noticed this season, Ryan Murphy likes to see how many times he can insert the word "Shit" in the script. "Shit" has replaced last season's favorite word, "Asshole."

Yes, and I don't think it does much to help his artistic endevour. It is getting to a point where it seems like they try to use the word simply for shock value. The shock value has worn off, and now it is just annoying.

I confess, I like the job the actor who is playing Matt is doing, if I had to pick who the "best actor," on this show is I would give it to the guy who plays him. He has done an excellent job turning Matt from a simple into a dark, frightening creature, I think the character needs to be done away with. Military school would be good, juvie would be better.
Oh, did I fail to mention that, while we have a multi million dollar business, I just so happen to have the ability to sign on a partner without anyone's consent and it's written in stone? WHAT? It just gets worse and worse.

I think Bruno Campos was brought quickly in because Julian McMahon is a flight risk. Between the box office success of Fantastic Four, Bond rumors, and talk about Murphy possibly leaving, there is a chance he might try to find a way to get out of his contract for next season. I think Campos has been doing the best he can with the role, but the Christian fans are refusing to open up to him knowing full well that the character is an intended replacement. Too bad Campos never had a fan following similar to the one McMahon had for Charmed.

The problems with character consistency stem back to first season, when they decided to make him a single father. The whole Wilber storyline was a daytime style cheap ploy to show the character's sensitive side.

Come to think of it, they have used just about every daytime cliched softening technique on Christian.

I can't blame JM, I think he's hanging on for dear life.

How would you feel if he leaves after next season?
I had this well thought out response all typed up, hit I-don't-know-what and lost the whole thing. Here we go again......I agree with you that the actor who plays Matt is right on the money. I was referring to the three key players when I said JM was the only one who could act.

I think both Dylan Walsh and Joely Richardson are HORRIBLE. If Julia flares her nostrils one more time or runs her hands through her hair to express emotion, please. Dylan is just wooden. There's just nothing there but empty stares.

I'm sure I will stop watching the show when JM leaves. The poor guy has nothing but threads to hang on to. The show is just horrible, it's awful. Last night was painful. I'm just waiting for Sean and Julia to get together and have a baby as the final nail in the show's coffin. The child will be born this season and then be 8 years old with an incurable disease next season.

Last night's story line was ridiculous, Julia and Gina opening a medical recovery spa. I've been trying to get land subdivided for over a year. God bless them with the speed in which they move on that show. Nothing flows, no show locks into the next. Things happen and then they just fall off the face of the earth, never to be mentioned again. Didn't Christian just meet his birth mother last week? Wasn't he just arrested as the Carver? I would think it would merit a passing comment.

I had really hoped JM would have gotten the Bond role. I know you would've been horrified. My husband was adamant that he was not even in the running. I think he would have been right on as Bond. I think the poor guy has been typecast and will never recover from this silly show. I'd love to see him do a romantic lead, but I think he's tied to Murphy for another year and his offers have dwindled to little more than cartoon characters.

I never watched Charmed, but I have an idea of why you think he's an arrogant jerk for having just ditched the show. I can fully understand your position. I don't want you to think that I've come on this site as a JM advocate (ha ha). I'm just here to vent to an intelligent person about how horrible this once promising show has become. You and I are pretty much on the same page about how badly the show has tanked. If JM had left this show in its prime, I would have the same feelings as you. Maybe you think he's getting what he deserved. Maybe he is. Let me know your thoughts!
Didn't want it getting burried under this post, so I started a main topic.

From reading other boards seems other people are not happy with the direction Nip/Tuck is going, might be nice to hear from some of them.
